Gabriel Square in St Albans, Hertfordshire has received a Silver award at the recent What House Awards for Best House. The awards celebrate the best new homes in Britain and are often considered the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.
The judges stated, “We particularly liked the generous glass box above the stairs, the fabulous roof terrace space, the immaculately designed bathrooms and the luxurious Control4 home automation system provided throughout the house. A great house packed with thoughtful details.”
Steve Leakey, Managing Director for Higgins Construction comments, “We are delighted to see Gabriel Square get the recognition it deserves at The What House Awards. I am extremely proud of the high quality work our team has carried out and we are pleased to be involved in such an award winning project.”
Higgins Construction has been working with Meyer Homes on the design and build of 80 residential homes and apartments around a raised central courtyard, with parking below and a public square and garden above. The homes include 52 townhouses ranging from three to five bedrooms, 16 two and three bedroom maisonettes and 12 one and two bedroom apartments.
The existing site is a bowl shape, which required excavation to regularize the lower ground floor but allowing near-level pedestrian access across the garden, from all sides. The development also includes works to part demolish and rebuild one family home at 25H Alma Road.
