Higgins Construction has been awarded a Silver at this year’s Considerate Constructors National Site Awards for its site, Gabriel Square in St Albans, Hertfordshire.
The awards recognise those sites registered with the Scheme that have raised the bar for considerate construction. The sites must demonstrate an appreciation of the impact of their work on the community, the environment and their workforce and the CCS rewards the UK’s most considerate sites for the contribution.
Steve Leakey, Managing Director of Higgins Construction comments, “To achieve a Silver Award is an amazing achievement and demonstrates our commitment to improving the image of construction. To be awarded a Silver, an advanced level of commitment to the CCS had to be demonstrated to be considered, so we are extremely proud that this has been awarded.”
The Considerate Constructors Scheme praised Gabriel Square. “The site is a joy to visit, well-prepared for the monitor. Across all sections, it is difficult to see where they can improve, short of finding innovations to do so. It is no surprise that they are one of the top contributors. Overall an exceptional result; well done to the site team”.
Gabriel Square on London Road in St. Albans includes the design and construction of 80 residential homes and apartments around a raised central courtyard, with parking below and a public square and garden above. The homes will include 52 townhouses ranging from three to five bedrooms, 16 two and three bedroom maisonettes and 12 one and two bedroom apartments.
The existing site is a bowl shape, requiring excavation to regularize the lower ground floor but allowing near-level pedestrian access across the garden, from all sides. The development also includes works to part demolish and rebuild one family home at 25H Alma Road.
