Colville Estate in London Borough of Hackney has been shortlisted for best regeneration project at this year’s National Housing Awards.
In its 13th year, The National Housing Awards (NHA) celebrates excellence in home ownership. The winners will be announced on 5th September 2019.
Steve Leakey, Managing Director of Higgins comments, “The judges are looking for the highest quality schemes that have transformed communities and are providing a lasting legacy so we are delighted that Colville Estate has been shortlisted by the judges.”
The regeneration of the Colville Estate is one of the largest projects in Hackney. Higgins was appointed by Hackney Council as development partner for phase 2 of the redevelopment of the Colville Estate – which provides more than 100 new homes – including seventy, for social rent, offering a high-quality, Council homes to existing residents whose decades-old properties were in disrepair.
The development also includes six homes for Shared Ownership and 40 properties for Outright Sale – to help pay for the new social housing in the absence of any government funding.
Designed by Karakusevic Carson Architects and David Chipperfield Architects, when the regeneration is complete, Colville Estate will provide 935 homes, of which over half will be for social rent allocated directly to families already living on the estate, or for Shared Ownership. The strong collaborative approach between all stakeholders has shaped a new strategy for other regeneration projects within the borough.
