Posted 24/06/2025
As part of the 2025 UK Passivhaus Open Days, Higgins is inviting local residents, environmental groups, and construction professionals to visit its Passivhaus development at John Street in Newham.
Delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Newham, the development is set to become one of the borough’s most energy-efficient new housing schemes. Providing 70 new affordable rent homes designed to meet the rigorous Passivhaus standard, the scheme will offer increased thermal comfort, improved indoor air quality, and lower energy bills for residents. These homes reflect a shared commitment to energy efficiency and will significantly reduce environmental impact.
Forty percent of the homes at John Street are designed as larger family homes, featuring corner balconies and generous roof terraces that maximise daylight and sunlight within the development. A spacious linear garden will serve as a central community space, complemented by an expanded pocket park with newly planted trees. The development also promotes sustainable transport, with 129 cycle spaces provided for residents.
Each year, Passivhaus buildings across the UK generously open their doors to visitors, providing people with an invaluable opportunity to experience the comfort and quality of a Passivhaus home.
