Supporting our local communities with environmental projects

At Higgins, we believe that building new homes also means building stronger, greener, and more connected communities. Across our developments, we are committed to making a lasting positive impact through volunteering, partnerships, and funding local initiatives.
As part of our Hartopp and Lannoy Point development, we are proud to have provided £20,000 of funding to support Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s environmental projects across the borough. Last year we spent time at Sir John Lillie Primary School, transforming the school’s playground with our subcontractor partners into a vibrant, greener environment, creating opportunities to enhance local biodiversity and provide students with an inspiring outdoor space.
Alongside this funding initiative, our team has been actively volunteering with several local organisations to promote sustainability and community wellbeing:
- We joined Energy Garden at Canonbury Station for their Community Tree Planting Day. Alongside 34 enthusiastic volunteers and Energy Garden’s Community Trees Lead, Silas Creighton, they planted 15 trees - including tea, palm, and olive trees - to enrich the green space and help green urban areas across Islington, Hackney, and Lewisham.
- At Phoenix Farm in White City, close to our Hartopp and Lannoy Point site, our volunteers partnered with the Hammersmith Community Gardens Association (HCGA) to move wood chips, rubble, and soil, and expand the pond area, enhancing local biodiversity. Phoenix Farm has been a vital community learning space since 2007, supporting schools, volunteers, and local groups.
- In another initiative, our team supported the Christchurch School Community Garden, gathering fallen leaves to create nutrient-rich mulch and clearing a new leaf composting area in the school car park. This rewarding day of volunteering helped promote sustainability and hands-on environmental education for pupils.
These activities are just some of the ways Higgins is investing in the social and environmental fabric of the communities we work in. Whether through funding, volunteering, or partnerships, we are passionate about leaving a legacy that goes beyond buildings, nurturing thriving, sustainable communities for generations to come.
