Latymer Upper School, Hammersmith
Development of Latymer Upper School, in Hammersmith, West London, an independent, co-educational day school taking children from the age of 7 years through to 18 years. Located on King Street, Hammersmith, this urban school has a long and proud history of serving the families of the immediate area and beyond.
The school was designed by Van Heyningen & Haward with Synergy acting as Employer’s Agent for the School. The new Science and Library building was constructed using a 4-storey concrete frame with a steel framed roof. The building was a naturally ventilated atrium building, housing the School’s science department of thirteen laboratories (five biology, four physics, four chemistry) with preparation rooms and fume cupboards. The Library occupied the ground floor and was fully integrated with the existing School buildings.
The works were undertaken in a restricted area whilst the school continued to operate, and a close and successful working relationship with the school was key to the project’s success.
