Applications open for Higgins’ Management Trainee Programme

Posted 24/11/2022

Higgins has opened its applications once again for Building Your Future, its successful Management Trainee Programme. As one of the leading employers within the industry, the company recognises the importance of nurturing young talent to help tackle the skills shortage and encourage more people into the industry.

The ‘Building Your Future’ programme allows individuals to get a taste of a number of core disciplines throughout the company before deciding on a chosen career path to specialise in. As part of the programme trainees will spend four days a week working with the remaining day spent at an industry accredited University working towards a Construction related BSc (Hons) degree apprenticeship.

Declan Higgins, Partnerships Director for Higgins Group explains more, “We understand how daunting it can be for school leavers to select a career path without having the understanding of the multitude of roles and responsibilities available in the construction industry.

“The programme has been designed to remove this pressure and give school leavers the opportunity to gain experience in a number of different departments, which gives them both time out on site on a variety of different developments and also working as part of our teams in head office.

“Each management trainee is also enrolled into our mentor programme whereby a senior employee provides individual guidance on their career at Higgins as well as assistance with their studies.

“We recognise the importance of young potential and this programme provides the building blocks for management trainees to advance to senior levels of management and Directorship.”

Emily joined the programme in 2020 and is now working as a Trainee Site Manager at Higgins’ Barrow Hall Road development. She comments, “Looking back at my time on the programme I think it’s the best introduction I could have had to the industry. The degree apprenticeship route enables you to gain real life industry experience from professionals while earning a salary, studying for your degree and having no student debt. I also have a pension already which I never expected to start at 18. My advice would be to keep an open mind and try to take as much out of each rotation as you can, before deciding on your career path.”

A successful applicant must have a minimum of 3 A levels (or equivalent) at C or above to the join the BSc course, good communication skills, computer literate in Word and Excel and enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

The deadline for applications is 31st January 2023. To find out more about Building Your Future, Higgins Management Trainee Programme and to complete the application please visit https://www.higgins-group.co.uk/about/working-with-us/management-trainee-programme/
