Higgins Partnerships has completed its latest development at Dixon Clark Court in Highbury Corner, London in partnership with Islington Council. The development has provided much-needed new council homes for the borough alongside 14 new homes available for private sale.
The development provides a range of one- to four-bedroom homes, with 27 out of the 41 homes specifically for council tenants, supporting local families in urgent need of quality housing.
Designed by architects Burrell Foley Fischer, the development features unique mews style ‘pavilion’ homes surrounding an existing tower block of 59 flats. For the first time, these residents can enjoy an enhanced south facing garden space.
Steve Leakey, Managing Director of Higgins Partnerships comments, “We are pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with Islington Council by delivering these much-needed new homes for the borough. We have also worked extremely hard with local groups and social enterprises to create social value initiatives, including employment and training opportunities for residents, with three apprenticeships specifically established as part of this development.
“Through our partnership with Skillsbuilder and the Accelerator programme, we’ve worked with local schools to develop essential skills. Additionally, our support for community groups such as St Luke’s Community Centre has strengthened our commitment to the community.”
As well as delivering new homes, the development has seen 13 new trees planted on the estate as well as funding to plant 63 new trees elsewhere across the borough. Environmental landscape improvements have included the installation of bat boxes and bird boxes, as well as a new species-rich hedgerow, and plantings of indigenous shrubs, wildflowers and grasses, which help promote local wildlife as well as combating the effects of air pollutants.
