As part of its ongoing commitment to developing new talent in the construction industry, Higgins Group is proud to support National Apprenticeship Week 2025.

Apprenticeships play a crucial role in addressing the industry’s skills gap, providing hands-on experience, and offering a clear pathway into long-term careers. Higgins Group continues to invest in apprenticeships, ensuring that young people and career changers gain the essential skills needed to thrive in the sector.

Dominic Higgins, Chief Operating Officer for Higgins Group, comments: “At Higgins, apprenticeships are more than just training - they are a vital part of our culture and commitment to nurturing early talent. We are dedicated to supporting the next generation of construction professionals, ensuring they have the skills and opportunities to thrive.

“This is why National Apprenticeship Week is so important, as it highlights the wealth of routes people can take to develop a rewarding career. We are not just creating new homes and communities but also building skills, jobs, and confidence - investing in the future workforce.”

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2025, Higgins is actively engaging with local communities around its developments through a series of career events, school workshops, and apprenticeship fairs to inspire and support those considering a career in construction. With at least 25% of labour on Higgins’ developments coming from local communities, the company is committed to creating meaningful employment and training opportunities that help residents gain the skills they need to succeed.

Through collaborations with local colleges, training providers, and subcontractors, Higgins ensures that apprentices receive high-quality mentoring, hands-on site experience, and structured career progression. Success stories like Chris, an apprentice working on the Wimbourne Street development in Hackney, demonstrate the impact of these opportunities. Chris is currently completing his Level 3 Drylining qualification while gaining real-world experience with SCL Interiors (London), showcasing the benefits of workplace learning.

Dillon, Plumbing Apprentice working at Greenhill Centre in Newham, learnt about his apprenticeship opportunity through Higgins’ partner Joe Brennan Training. He describes his experience as highly positive, particularly highlighting the supportive and friendly nature of the team. The plumbers on-site have been instrumental in his learning, taking time to explain tasks and processes in detail. “If you take the first step, you’re already halfway there.”

Jaden, a Plumbing Apprentice, also at Wimbourne Street, Hackney, has found his time on site both challenging and rewarding. He has gained confidence in his technical abilities and now independently handles tasks, thanks to the support and mentorship of his colleagues.

Jaden comments, “Working at Higgins has been an amazing experience. I’ve gained confidence in my skills, especially with tasks like installing air ducts, and I’m excited to keep learning and eventually run my own business.

“It has been a very rewarding and satisfying experience learning on the job and earning. Having good people to mentor and shadow while getting my concerns and questions answered if I’m not sure about something.”

Mikhael, Business Admin Apprentice, works as part of Higgins’ Social Value team. He recently completed his Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship, achieving a Distinction.

“Every day brings different challenges which keeps me motivated to become better and if I am unsure about anything I can ask my team and Manager for help. They take the time to explain everything properly. I enjoy the flexibility and the range of tasks of the role.” Says Mikhael.

As the demand for skilled workers in construction continues to grow, Higgins remains committed to championing apprenticeships and supporting the next generation of industry professionals.
