Building Your Future with Higgins Group

As degree apprenticeships become an increasingly popular pathway into higher education and careers, Higgins Group is proud to launch its latest round of its Management Trainee Programme, designed for young talent eager to start their journey in the construction industry.

With degree apprenticeships making up nearly 16% of all apprenticeships in the UK in 2023/2024, Higgins’ initiative aligns with this growing trend, providing school leavers the opportunity to "earn while they learn" and pursue a construction-related degree, all while gaining valuable on-the-job experience.

Higgins Group’s Management Trainee Programme offers participants the chance to rotate through four core departments over 12-16 months, building hands-on skills and insight into the full scope of disciplines that contribute to Higgins' success. Trainees will receive a degree apprenticeship in Construction Management once they have completed the programme. After completing the programme, trainees are primed to step into a Trainee Site Management position and are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the future of the built environment.

Dominic Higgins, Chief Operating Officer at Higgins Group, shared his enthusiasm for the programme's ongoing growth: “We are thrilled to see growing interest each year in our degree apprenticeships, with more applicants wanting to be part of the programme. A degree apprenticeship offers an ideal entry point for anyone looking to build a career in construction, combining hands-on experience with academic learning at an industry-accredited university.

“At Higgins, we are committed to supporting and nurturing our team, and it’s immensely rewarding to see our management trainees progressing to senior management and leadership roles within the business."

Fully funded by Higgins Group, the programme enables participants to earn competitive salaries and benefit from annual performance-based raises, pension enrolment, and a comprehensive mentoring system, all without the burden of student debt. Each trainee is paired with a senior mentor who provides personal guidance on career development and academic support.

Kodi, who joined the programme in September 2024, shares his experience: "After finishing sixth form, I took a gap year to explore my options and found the Higgins Management Trainee Programme. The supportive team here makes a difference, and I feel my confidence and skills growing as I take on more responsibility. Starting university alongside my training is rewarding—I’m already applying theory to real-life situations. This route allows me to get paid while earning my degree and advancing in my career faster than the traditional university route.”

Applicants are required to have at least three A-levels (or equivalent) at C or above to join the BSc course, along with strong communication skills, computer literacy in Word and Excel, and a passion for learning.

Higgins Group’s Management Trainee Programme underscores its commitment to fostering the next generation of construction professionals by equipping young people with the skills, education, and mentorship they need to succeed.

The deadline for applications is 16th February 2025.
