Atheldene Health Centre, Wandsworth

The Garratt Collection was a major redevelopment of a former brownfield site delivered for our sister company Higgins Homes in collaboration with the London Borough of Wandsworth, designed by Pollard Thomas Edwards. The mixed-use development provided 193 homes and two commercial units, and to support this we constructed a new GP-led community health centre, the Atheldene Health Centre, and pharmacy.

The Atheldene Health Centre underscored our expertise in constructing complex public buildings. The new centre replaced an outdated facility, the Brocklebank Health Centre, with the aim of expanding healthcare services to meet the growing needs of Wandsworth’s diverse population. The project involved the construction of a three-storey building with a range of healthcare facilities, including GP consulting rooms, treatment areas, a pharmacy, and spaces for community health services.

The fit-out of the Health Centre was delivered directly for the NHS to meet NHS Property Primary Care and Community Health Premises Standard Specification and Design Requirement. We worked alongside specialist consultants to facilitate this.

To minimise longer-term running costs, the Healthcare Centre and Commercial Units were BREEAM Excellent. This was supported by Sustainability and Energy consultant NRG, which required us to integrate advanced sustainability features into the design and construction of the health centre.

The existing Brocklebank Health Centre and local pharmacy continued to operate while the new Atheldene Health Centre and pharmacy were under construction, guaranteeing uninterrupted service to residents during the construction period. We constructed a temporary pharmacy building to facilitate this.
