City Park West, Chelmsford
Mixed Use Development for Notting Hill Genesis in Chelmsford City Centre, adjacent to the railway station and main shopping areas and opposite the County Cricket Ground. The development includes 426 mixed tenure homes, 4,900 m2 of commercial space, new public open spaces and a two-level basement car park in an urban town centre setting.
The development was designed by Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects and comprises a series of medium rise blocks and a 14 storey taller building. The re-planned buildings and open space form an attractive environment which enhances the connections between existing key areas of Chelmsford. The town centre triangular site is bounded by two main roads to the north and east with a railway viaduct to the south and west.
The properties were designed to a high-quality specification, with open plan living spaces, stylish kitchens with integrated appliances, engineered wooden flooring and contemporary bathrooms. The dynamic new design remains sensitive to the city’s historic foundations, whilst providing a number of charismatic areas built around public open spaces and linking new pedestrian and cycle routes.
This is an award winning development and achieved the following: RTPI Award for Planning Excellence 2016 – Winner, Brick Award 2015 – Winner, RTPI Award for Planning Excellence 2015 – Finals, British Homes Awards - Regeneration Scheme of the Year 2020 – Winner, Civic Trust Award 2020 - Regional Finalist
Neil Hadden, Chief Executive of Notting Hill Genesis Housing Association, said: “Everyone should be proud of the part they have played in making this development the vibrant and thriving city-centre community taking shape today.
