Mayow Road, Lewisham

Residential development providing council led specialist housing adjacent to Mayow Park in Sydenham, Lewisham. The site is located on the edge of Mayow Park and included the demolition of an existing warehouse to create a single 6/7 storey block, containing 26 much needed two and three bedroom apartments for Lewisham Homes and 6 supported living homes.

The development provides six family homes offering supported living accommodation for residents with challenging learning difficulties and/or autism. The remaining 26 homes offer temporary accommodation for homeless families, allowing them to move out of nightly paid accommodation. Additional to the new build homes external works, drainage and associated ancillary spaces with provision for 2 accessible car parking spaces, associated landscaping, refuse storage and cycle parking were included.

The project has been designed by Avanti Architects and the Employer’s Agent is CalfordSeaden and delivers 32 homes in total. Avanti have adopted a palette of high-quality materials and details that respond to the wider context, with variations in detailing that characterise the main entrances and lower storeys. Generous balconies are inset within the facade and full-height windows are provided throughout, with storey levels articulated through bands of vertical brick coursing.

Ainsley Forbes, Lewisham Homes’ Board Chair, said: “We look forward to working with Higgins Partnerships on this high-quality development delivered by Lewisham Homes as part of Lewisham Council’s continuing efforts to address acute housing needs in the borough. We intend to set a benchmark with an exemplary and inclusive development which truly enhances its setting.”
